Tamale High Court Orders Rerun of 2024 Kpandai Parliamentary Elections

The Tamale High Court has declared the 2024 Kpandai parliamentary election invalid, ordering a complete rerun and overturning the victory of incumbent MP Mathew Nyindam.

The ruling follows a petition filed by NDC parliamentary candidate Daniel Nsala Wakpal, who alleged that significant irregularities marred the December 7, 2024, polls. According to him, Form 8A (Pink Sheet) from 41 out of 152 polling stations showed inconsistencies that breached Regulations 39 and 43 of the Public Elections Regulations (CI 127).

However, Mathew Nyindam has filed a case at the Supreme Court, seeking to overturn the High Court’s decision and reinstate his 2024 victory. The final outcome now depends on the Supreme Court’s ruling.

Meanwhile, political analyst Solomon Owusu has cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against withdrawing from the upcoming rerun. He referenced the party’s earlier withdrawal from the Tamale Central by-election, which followed the tragic death of former MP Murtala Mohammed in a helicopter crash.

Owusu argued that democracy thrives on participation, and the people of Kpandai must not be denied the chance to elect their representative.

“I am ready to sue the New Patriotic Party should they withdraw from this election. The last time in Tamale Central, they got away with it,” he said during an interview on TV3 New Day’s The Big Issue on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.

He added that elections come with both wins and losses, and the NPP must face the contest rather than step aside:

“We are practicing democracy. It is a win or lose. They must go into Kpandai and contest. If they win, good for them. If they don’t contest, I will sue.”

With the rerun pending and legal battles ongoing, all eyes remain on the Supreme Court and the political developments in Kpandai.
