A renewed call has been made for the establishment of a Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SNNIT) office at Half Assini in the Jomoro Municipality, following a public appeal by respected community elder and development advocate, Mr. Ketiboa Blay.
Mr. Blay has emphasised that the continued absence of a SNNIT office in Half Assini places an unnecessary burden on workers, pensioners, and employers across the municipality. Many residents are compelled to travel long distances to access essential social security services, leading to increased costs, delays, and inconvenience.
Half Assini, which serves as the municipal capital of Jomoro, is considered strategically positioned to host a SNNIT office that would efficiently serve surrounding towns and communities. According to Mr. Blay, the establishment of the office would significantly improve access to pension services, registration, and employer compliance, particularly for public servants, traders, fishermen, and other formal-sector workers.
In a strong demonstration of commitment to local development, Mr. Blay disclosed that he acquired and secured adequate land in 2002 specifically for the establishment of a SNNIT office. He explained that this was done to remove one of the major logistical barriers that often delay public infrastructure projects.
“The Jomoro Municipal Assembly must act decisively to establish and acquire a SNNIT office at Half Assini,” Mr. Blay stated. “I secured land for this purpose over two decades ago to support the realisation of this important project.”
The renewed call has been welcomed by residents and local stakeholders, many of whom believe a SNNIT office in Half Assini would enhance public service delivery, strengthen social security administration, and contribute to economic growth within the municipality.
As national conversations continue around decentralisation and improved access to government services, Mr. Blay’s appeal has reignited interest in a proposal that has remained unresolved for years. Attention is now focused on the Jomoro Municipal Assembly and SNNIT authorities to consider the offer and take concrete steps toward making a SNNIT office at Half Assini a reality.
