On Saturday, December 6, 2025, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohunu led an impressive show-of-force exercise, showcasing the Ghana Police Service’s newly acquired fleet of 40 armoured vehicles. The demonstration highlighted the Service’s enhanced operational readiness and its commitment to maintaining public safety, especially as the nation approaches the busy Christmas and New Year holiday season.

The exercise saw officers skillfully manoeuvre the heavy-duty vehicles across key areas of Accra, signalling a heightened state of security preparedness and serving as a deterrent against criminal activity. Senior officers and members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) were also present, highlighting the strategic importance of this deployment.
“This deployment not only boosts police visibility but also reassures the public during a period when business activity and street crime typically increase,” IGP Yohunu explained.

The 40 new vehicles were officially handed over to the Ghana Police Service by President John Mahama on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at the police headquarters. The ceremony was attended by the Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed, Chair of the Defence Committee in Parliament, James Algalga, other government officials, and police leadership.

Addressing officers at the ceremony, IGP Yohunu expressed gratitude for the government’s support and emphasised the strategic deployment and proper maintenance of the vehicles to maximise their impact.
“We sincerely thank the government for prioritising our welfare. These vehicles will be well-maintained and strategically deployed to achieve their objectives,” he said.
IGP Yohunu further highlighted that the armoured vehicles would significantly enhance the Service’s ability to protect officers, maintain law and order, and ensure the safety of all citizens nationwide.

With this show-of-force exercise, the Ghana Police Service demonstrates its commitment to public safety, rapid response capabilities, and preparedness during high-risk periods, sending a strong message that the streets of Accra are safer than ever this festive season.
